Discover Birds of the Fraser Valley at Earthwise Agassiz
Birds play an important role in healthy ecosystems as pollinators, seed dispersers and insect predators, but how much do we really know about the different kinds of birds living in our own backyards? This fall, we are excited to invite the community to discover the birds of the Eastern Fraser Valley with For the Birds, a new program featuring fun, practical ways for people of all ages to learn how to identify birds and discover ways to help them thrive.
Guided Bird Walks
Join local bird expert Janne Perrin of the Miami River Streamkeepers Society for a guided bird walk at Earthwise Agassiz. Bird walks take place on the third Thursday of every month at Earthwise Agassiz. Janne will lead participants along the wetland and riparian trails at Earthwise Agassiz. As you explore, you’ll have an opportunity to identify birds by sight and sound and learn how online tools can be used to record your observations.

For the Birds Workshop Series
Earthwise is offering a FREE three-part series of hands-on workshops exploring the different ways we can support birds and their habitats. From creating bird-friendly gardens to enhancing natural habitat and building homes for cavity-nesting species, each workshop offers practical, family-friendly activities and ideas you can take home. October 10: Gardening for the Birds | 10 am–12 pm
Discover how to attract birds to your own garden. Learn about bird-friendly gardening and practical ways to create habitat that provides food and shelter for local birds.
October 24: Habitat for the Birds | 10 am–12 pm
Explore the role of habitat enhancement in supporting healthy and diverse bird populations. Participants will take a tour along the Earthwise trails and learn to identify important native plants that provide valuable bird habitat.
November 7: Homes for the Birds | 10 am–12 pm
Get creative and build a home for the birds! This fun, hands-on workshop will give participants the opportunity to assemble birdhouses for native cavity-nesting species.
Stewardship Volunteer Certificate Program
Interested in getting even more involved? Complete Workshops #1 and #2, join one bird walk with Janne, and volunteer for two 2-hour sessions to earn a Stewardship Volunteer Certificate recognizing your participation and commitment to supporting local bird habitat.
